Check All Your Fluid Levels Before Going An A Summer Road Trip

Posted by: headm on: November 8, 2016

One of the highlights of any summer vacation is a summer road trip. Nothing feels better than driving down the freeway, knowing you are heading somewhere great, enjoying the fresh air and the summer sun. The only thing that can really ruin a great summer road trip is a broken down car. Do not let a broken down car ruin your summer road trip. Make sure you check all of your fluid levels before you start-off on your summer road trip.

Oil

Check your oil level before you head off. Make sure it is at the appropriate level. If your oil is a little low or if you are close to hitting the 3,000 mile mark, head in for an oil change before you head out on your trip. You will experience peace of mind knowing that your car has all the oil it needs.

Radiator

Over time, the fluid inside of your radiator begins to break down. Once the fluid breaks down, your car will not be able to cool itself down effectively. You should flush your radiator at least once a year.

Brake Fluid

You should take your car in and have the brakes checked at least twice a year. If it has been more than six months since you have had your brakes checked, take your vehicle into your mechanic. Ask them to check how much life is left on your brakes and to top off your brake fluid.

Antifreeze

Make sure you have enough antifreeze before heading out. Just like the fluid in your radiator, your antifreeze helps keep your car cool. If you refill the antifreeze yourself, make sure you pick up a 50/50 mix. If you do not pick up a 50/50 mix, you need to add water to the antifreeze before adding it to your vehicle.

Washer Fluid

Although washer fluid does not help your car run smoother, it will make your trip more pleasant. Nothing is worse than having squished bugs on your windshield and realizing you cannot clean them off because you are out of washer fluid.

Make sure you check all the fluid levels in your vehicle before heading off on your summer road trip. No one wants to deal with a broken car while on vacation. Visit this site to learn more car maintenance tips and tricks to keep your vehicle running smoothly.
